The shoulder is a complex joint that allows a wide range of motion. However, this mobility also makes it susceptible to injury and pain. Shoulder pain can occur due to various factors, such as muscle strain, ligament sprains, joint inflammation, tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, or even referred pain from the neck or upper back.
Shoulder pain can manifest in different ways, including sharp or dull aches, stiffness, limited range of motion, weakness, or difficulty in performing everyday tasks like lifting objects, reaching overhead, or even getting dressed. Regardless of the cause or symptoms, finding the right treatment is essential to regain your shoulder’s functionality and relieve your pain.
At Aspire Chiropractic, we take a holistic approach to shoulder pain relief, focusing on identifying the underlying cause rather than merely addressing the symptoms. Our experienced chiropractors will conduct a thorough examination and may also request diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays or MRI scans, to get a comprehensive view of your shoulder condition.
Based on the findings, we will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. Our chiropractic care for shoulder pain may include:
Gentle adjustments to the spine and shoulder joints can restore proper alignment, relieve pressure, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.
We may utilize techniques like myofascial release, massage, or trigger point therapy to address muscular imbalances and alleviate tension or tightness in the surrounding soft tissues.
Our team will guide you through specific exercises and stretches to improve shoulder strength, flexibility, and stability. These exercises can be performed both in our office and at home to enhance your recovery.
We will provide you with recommendations on ergonomic improvements, posture correction, and self-care techniques to support your shoulder’s healing process and prevent future injuries.
In some cases, nutritional deficiencies or inflammation-promoting foods can contribute to shoulder pain. We will offer advice on dietary adjustments and nutritional supplements to support your overall health and aid in the healing process.

Neck pain can be caused by a variety of factors including muscle strains, worn joints, nerve compression, injuries, or diseases such as arthritis. Visiting a chiropractor for neck pain can be beneficial, as they specialize in treating musculoskeletal issues by adjusting the spine to improve alignment and relieve pain.
A chiropractor treats neck pain through spinal manipulation and adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and prescribing exercises to strengthen and improve neck mobility. Chiropractic care is generally considered safe for treating neck pain, especially when performed by a licensed and experienced practitioner.
During your first chiropractic visit for neck pain, expect a thorough examination, discussion of your health history, and possibly diagnostic tests before receiving any treatment. The number of chiropractic sessions needed for neck pain varies depending on the individual’s condition, with some experiencing relief after a few sessions and others requiring longer-term care.
Chiropractic care is generally safe for neck pain, especially when performed by a trained and licensed chiropractor, with the majority of patients experiencing relief and minimal side effects. However, it’s important to communicate openly with your chiropractor about your health history and any concerns, as certain conditions may require caution or alternative treatments.
During your first chiropractic visit for neck pain, expect a comprehensive evaluation that includes a detailed discussion of your health history, a physical examination focusing on your spine, and possibly diagnostic imaging tests to pinpoint the cause of your pain. Your chiropractor will then discuss a customized treatment plan with you, which may begin with spinal adjustments or other techniques aimed at relieving your neck pain and improving function.
The number of chiropractic sessions required for neck pain varies depending on the individual’s specific condition, the severity of the pain, and their response to treatment. While some patients may experience significant relief after just a few sessions, others might need a more extended treatment plan, spanning several weeks to months, to achieve the desired outcomes.

Dr. Mark Betsill is a dedicated chiropractor serving patients in Gresham with more than a decade of experience helping individuals move better, feel better, and return to the activities they enjoy most. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health from Boise State University, where his interest in health and human performance first began to take shape.
After experiencing firsthand how chiropractic care helped him recover from an upper back injury that was affecting his golf game, Dr. Betsill discovered the path he wanted to pursue. He went on to attend Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2007.
Dr. Betsill focuses on helping patients recover from neck and back pain, sports injuries, postural stress, auto accident injuries, and workplace-related conditions. He uses gentle, effective techniques including manual adjustments, the Activator Method, and drop-table adjustments to address spinal misalignment and extremity dysfunction. He also has a special clinical interest in neck and lower back disc herniations, often combining chiropractic adjustments with computerized mechanical traction to improve pain relief, mobility, and function.
While many patients first visit because of pain, Dr. Betsill is passionate about helping them move beyond symptom relief. His goal is to help people improve functional movement, maintain spinal health, and support long-term wellness. He treats patients of all ages—including infants, children, teens, athletes, and pregnant women—and believes chiropractic care can play an important role in addressing not only spinal concerns, but also shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot discomfort.
Shortly before graduating in 2007, Dr. Betsill faced a personal health challenge that deeply shaped his philosophy of care. After multiple emergency room visits for dizziness, syncope, and chest pain, he began looking beyond symptoms alone. Through that experience, he came to better understand the effects of physical, chemical, and emotional stress on the body. By combining chiropractic care, massage, exercise, and proper nutrition, he restored his own health—an experience that continues to influence the way he cares for patients today.
Originally from northern Nevada and southern Idaho, Dr. Betsill grew up playing sports, with golf becoming a lifelong favorite. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Today, he and his wife and two sons enjoy life in the Pacific Northwest. When he’s not in the office, you’ll often find him on the course with the men’s club at Gresham Golf Course or staying active and fit with his family.
