Managing Migraines Naturally: The Role of Chiropractic Care in Gresham

A woman is holding her head with a pained expression, suggesting she has a headache or is experiencing discomfort.

Migraines are more than just headaches. They can be debilitating, disrupting daily routines, work, and quality of life. While medications may provide temporary relief, many Gresham residents are turning toward natural and non-invasive solutions that target the root cause of their pain.

One of the most effective approaches is chiropractic care for migraines, which focuses on improving spinal health, nervous system function, and overall body balance.

Understanding the Connection Between Spinal Health and Migraines

Migraines are often linked to issues within the musculoskeletal system. Poor posture, tension in the neck and shoulders, and spinal misalignments can place pressure on nerves, triggering or worsening migraine episodes. A chiropractic adjustment near me can help correct these misalignments and reduce nerve irritation that contributes to headaches.

At Aspire Chiropractic, treatments are designed to restore spinal alignment and improve circulation—two important factors in addressing the underlying causes of migraines.

How Chiropractic Adjustments Help Manage Migraines

Chiropractic adjustments focus on gently realigning the spine to reduce tension and improve nervous system function. By correcting misalignments in the cervical spine (the neck area), chiropractors can reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.

Benefits of adjustments for migraine sufferers include:

  • Decreased pressure on spinal nerves

  • Improved blood flow to the brain

  • Reduced muscle tension in the neck and shoulders

  • Enhanced mobility and posture

Many Gresham patients report fewer migraine episodes after incorporating regular adjustments into their care routine. Searching for a chiropractic adjustment near me may be the first step toward finding natural relief that works long term.

The Role of Chiropractic Massage Therapy in Migraine Relief

Migraines are often intensified by muscle tightness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Chiropractic massage therapy can help relieve this tension, improving blood circulation and calming the nervous system.

Massage therapy works hand in hand with adjustments to:

  • Relax tight muscles that may be pulling the spine out of alignment

  • Release trigger points that contribute to headache pain

  • Promote relaxation and stress reduction, which are crucial for managing migraines

Patients in Gresham often find that combining chiropractic massage therapy with spinal adjustments provides a more comprehensive approach to reducing migraine symptoms.

Spinal Decompression Therapy as Added Support

For individuals whose migraines are connected to disc problems or spinal compression, spinal decompression can be a valuable therapy. This non-invasive treatment gently stretches the spine to relieve pressure on the nerves and improve spinal health.

If you’re interested in exploring this option, Aspire Chiropractic also offers mechanical traction and spinal decompression therapy as part of their treatment services. This may complement chiropractic care for migraines by addressing deeper spinal issues that contribute to recurring headaches.

Lifestyle and Postural Support from Chiropractic Care

Beyond hands-on treatments, chiropractic care often includes guidance on posture, stretching, and lifestyle changes. Since poor posture and stress are common migraine triggers, simple adjustments in daily habits can make a significant difference.

Tips often include:

  • Practicing ergonomic sitting and standing positions

  • Taking regular breaks to stretch during work or screen time

  • Staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet

  • Incorporating gentle exercises to improve circulation and reduce tension

These proactive steps, paired with regular chiropractic care, help many Gresham residents take control of their migraine management naturally.

Dr. Mark Betsill

Dr. Mark Betsill is a dedicated chiropractor serving patients in Gresham with more than a decade of experience helping individuals move better, feel better, and return to the activities they enjoy most. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health from Boise State University, where his interest in health and human performance first began to take shape.

After experiencing firsthand how chiropractic care helped him recover from an upper back injury that was affecting his golf game, Dr. Betsill discovered the path he wanted to pursue. He went on to attend Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2007.

Dr. Betsill focuses on helping patients recover from neck and back pain, sports injuries, postural stress, auto accident injuries, and workplace-related conditions. He uses gentle, effective techniques including manual adjustments, the Activator Method, and drop-table adjustments to address spinal misalignment and extremity dysfunction. He also has a special clinical interest in neck and lower back disc herniations, often combining chiropractic adjustments with computerized mechanical traction to improve pain relief, mobility, and function.

While many patients first visit because of pain, Dr. Betsill is passionate about helping them move beyond symptom relief. His goal is to help people improve functional movement, maintain spinal health, and support long-term wellness. He treats patients of all ages—including infants, children, teens, athletes, and pregnant women—and believes chiropractic care can play an important role in addressing not only spinal concerns, but also shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot discomfort.

Shortly before graduating in 2007, Dr. Betsill faced a personal health challenge that deeply shaped his philosophy of care. After multiple emergency room visits for dizziness, syncope, and chest pain, he began looking beyond symptoms alone. Through that experience, he came to better understand the effects of physical, chemical, and emotional stress on the body. By combining chiropractic care, massage, exercise, and proper nutrition, he restored his own health—an experience that continues to influence the way he cares for patients today.

Originally from northern Nevada and southern Idaho, Dr. Betsill grew up playing sports, with golf becoming a lifelong favorite. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Today, he and his wife and two sons enjoy life in the Pacific Northwest. When he’s not in the office, you’ll often find him on the course with the men’s club at Gresham Golf Course or staying active and fit with his family.
