If you have been living with pain in your middle, upper or lower back, Dr. Betsill, Gresham Chiropractor, will examine your spine to determine the reasons for your back pain. Sciatica
If your upper back pain or lower back pain occurs suddenly following an injury or activity, Dr. Betsill, chiropractor at Aspire Chiropractic in Gresham, OR, can evaluate your injuries and symptoms to determine the best chiropractic care program for you. Sudden back pain may be the result of:
Herniated discs
Sciatica
Slipped vertebrae
Pinched nerves
A spinal fracture
Muscle strains
If you are experiencing back pain and live near the Gresham, Oregon area or near the Multnomah County area, we invite you to Aspire Chiropractic to meet our back pain chiropractor for a complete evaluation of your condition. Once our back pain chiropractor examines your spine, he may recommend a series of chiropractic adjustments. Gentle adjustments position the vertebrae of your spine so that herniated discs can heal, spinal abnormalities ease, and muscle strains are alleviated. In addition, your back alignment or chiropractic treatment may include spinal decompression which increases the space between the vertebrae to promote the healing of herniated or bulging discs.
If your back pain is caused by muscle strains or tight muscles, our chiropractors may use massage therapy to relax the area and eliminate back pain. Chiropractic alignments are natural and work with your body’s natural resources to eliminate back pain and restore your physical activity. Throughout your treatment, our chiropractor teaches you lifestyle corrections such as better ways to sit in a chair, ideal sleeping positions, and how to lift heavy objects to keep your back pain-free. With consistent adjustments, your back learns to remain strong in a healthy alignment, which reduces future back pain episodes.
We have hundreds of patients who chose to get adjusted year after year because they experience the benefits of strong immune systems, less sickness, better sleep, more energy, reduced symptoms, and overall better health. We also have patients who get adjusted for a specific issue to experience relief. We are here to give you back your quality of life.
Your back pain does not have to keep you from working or participating in the activities you enjoy. If you have been in an accident and are experiencing back pain, please reach out to our Gresham chiropractor as soon as possible. If your upper back pain or lower back pain is progressively getting worse, but not yet interfering with your day, we encourage you to contact us for our chiropractic adjustments before it worsens. The sooner you begin the chiropractor adjustment procedure for back pain, the faster your recovery time and the less likely you will experience a return of the pain. Dr. Betsill looks forward to sharing his knowledge with you about how to prevent back pain during the day. This may be something simple as raising your computer height or it may require at-home exercises to strengthen your muscles, but you will feel the difference almost immediately.

Back pain is often caused by factors such as muscle or ligament strain, bulging or ruptured disks, arthritis, skeletal irregularities, or osteoporosis. If your back hurts, a chiropractor can help by diagnosing the source of your pain and providing treatments such as spinal adjustments to relieve pressure, improve spinal function, and increase mobility.
During a chiropractic adjustment for back pain, the chiropractor applies a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint to improve motion and alignment. Chiropractic treatment for back pain is generally safe, with risks being very low and often associated with minor discomfort or soreness.
A chiropractor adjusts your back by using their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint, aiming to improve motion and alignment. This process, known as spinal manipulation, may also involve moving the joint through various positions to increase its range of motion.
Chiropractic treatment is generally considered safe for back pain, especially when performed by a trained and licensed practitioner; however, like any medical treatment, it can have some risks, such as temporary soreness, and is not suitable for individuals with certain health conditions.
Your first visit to a chiropractor for back pain will likely involve a detailed health history, a physical examination, and possibly imaging tests, followed by a discussion of the proposed treatment plan. The number of sessions needed for back pain relief can vary greatly, with some individuals experiencing improvement after only a few sessions, while others may need ongoing care to manage their condition.
The number of chiropractic sessions required for back pain relief varies widely among individuals, depending on the severity and nature of their condition, as well as their response to treatment. Typically, some patients may experience significant improvement within a few sessions, while others might need a longer course of treatment spanning several weeks or months to achieve optimal results.

Dr. Mark Betsill is a dedicated chiropractor serving patients in Gresham with more than a decade of experience helping individuals move better, feel better, and return to the activities they enjoy most. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Health from Boise State University, where his interest in health and human performance first began to take shape.
After experiencing firsthand how chiropractic care helped him recover from an upper back injury that was affecting his golf game, Dr. Betsill discovered the path he wanted to pursue. He went on to attend Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2007.
Dr. Betsill focuses on helping patients recover from neck and back pain, sports injuries, postural stress, auto accident injuries, and workplace-related conditions. He uses gentle, effective techniques including manual adjustments, the Activator Method, and drop-table adjustments to address spinal misalignment and extremity dysfunction. He also has a special clinical interest in neck and lower back disc herniations, often combining chiropractic adjustments with computerized mechanical traction to improve pain relief, mobility, and function.
While many patients first visit because of pain, Dr. Betsill is passionate about helping them move beyond symptom relief. His goal is to help people improve functional movement, maintain spinal health, and support long-term wellness. He treats patients of all ages—including infants, children, teens, athletes, and pregnant women—and believes chiropractic care can play an important role in addressing not only spinal concerns, but also shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot discomfort.
Shortly before graduating in 2007, Dr. Betsill faced a personal health challenge that deeply shaped his philosophy of care. After multiple emergency room visits for dizziness, syncope, and chest pain, he began looking beyond symptoms alone. Through that experience, he came to better understand the effects of physical, chemical, and emotional stress on the body. By combining chiropractic care, massage, exercise, and proper nutrition, he restored his own health—an experience that continues to influence the way he cares for patients today.
Originally from northern Nevada and southern Idaho, Dr. Betsill grew up playing sports, with golf becoming a lifelong favorite. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Today, he and his wife and two sons enjoy life in the Pacific Northwest. When he’s not in the office, you’ll often find him on the course with the men’s club at Gresham Golf Course or staying active and fit with his family.
